The Madison Parish Chamber of Commerce resumed operations Wednesday with a luncheon at the Richmond Community Center, marking the group’s first meeting since it stopped gathering during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vice President Mary Trichell said the chamber intends to rebuild participation and reestablish its role in the parish. “We stopped meeting during COVID and we just never really got going again afterwards,” Trichell said. “I think it’s vital that Chamber begins meeting again and that we get the community and business owners involved. Chambers of Commerce are important because they are a voice for local businesses and a way to help our community grow.”
Henry Thornton, META Community Development Regional Manager, delivered the keynote address and outlined the company’s ongoing data center project in Richland Parish. Thornton described the facility’s construction timeline, expected workforce needs, and META’s partnerships with local and state officials. He also answered questions from parish officials and residents about roads, water systems, energy infrastructure and hiring opportunities.
Thornton told attendees that META’s construction partners are emphasizing local hiring and that the company is planning long-term workforce development as the data center approaches completion. He also said META is aware of road concerns raised by Madison Parish officials and is relaying those issues within the company. He noted that META is paying for new power-generation facilities to support the project and described the company’s commitments related to water use and infrastructure.
Residents asked about future expansion, housing needs for construction workers, and whether META plays any role in local property acquisition. Thornton said META has not invested in housing projects and has not purchased or rented homes for workers.
Trichell said the chamber intends to continue scheduling meetings and to build participation across the parish. “We want to make sure that we are doing everything possible to showcase Tallulah and to build our business base,” she said.
Those interested in joining the chamber may contact Tallulah City Hall in January.
