The Madison High School Jaguars fell to 3-5 on the season (0-4 in 2A, District 2) with a 42-0 loss Friday at Oak Grove, but head coach Levi Washington Jr. said his team is learning from the adversity.
"The temptation to give up is a common one, and nobody is exempt," Washington said on social media following the game. "Failure isn't something many of us can handle gracefully. And even though we know it's a common human condition, we're somehow always surprised when it happens. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. A failure is not always a mistake. It may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances. The real mistake is to stop trying. We will not give in, We gone keep comin'."
The Jags got off to a fast start to the season, going 3-0 before losing quarterback Jaquarrius "Deuce" Bolden for the season to a knee injury. MHS has gone 0-5 since the loss, including three straight shutouts.
The Jags will look to get back on track next week on the road in a conference game versus the 3-5 Vidalia Vikings.
