The Tallulah Academy Trojans improved to 2-0 on the season Friday with a 30-point win over the Franklin Academy Cougars on the road in Winnsboro.
TA quarterback Dee Morgan led the offensive charge in Friday’s win, throwing for 262 yards and five touchdowns, while completing 78.6 percent of his passes.
Already up 6-0, Morgan’s longest touchdown pass of the contest came in the second quarter, when he found Landry Tweedle for a 75-yard score through the air, giving the Trojans a 12-0 lead.
TA running back Brayson Morson added to the Trojans’ lead, breaking free for a 25-yard touchdown scamper and hurdling defenders on his way to the end zone, and Morgan found running back Wyatt Bedgood for a 19-yard touchdown strike, giving TA a 24-16 lead heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Trojans went back to the air, with Morgan finding Morson for an 18-yard touchdown. Later in the quarter, Morgan would find Tweedle again, this time on a short, 5-yard pass for a touchdown and would air it out long once more, with a 47-yard bomb to Hayes Hopkins for a score, capping off the 52-22 blowout.
Tweedle ended Friday’s game as the Trojans’ leading receiver, with 139 yards and two touchdowns off just five receptions. Morson led TA in rushing, with 70 total yards and one score on the ground off only six carries. Morson averaged an eye-popping 11.7 yards per carry.
Defensively, Zac Nolan led TA with 4.5 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss and one sack; Morson finished with four solo tackles and two tackles for a loss; Hopkins ended the game with 1.5 tackles and one sack.
In all, the Trojans outgained the Cougars with 433 total yards of offense, to Franklin’s 204. TA tossed the ball for 262 yards through the air and rushed for 171 yards.
The Trojans will now prepare for its second straight road test, as TA will face Riverdale Friday on the road in Coushatta. The RA Rebels are also 2-0 on the year, with wins over Prairie View and Union Christian academies. TA and RA will meet in the non-conference matchup Friday at 7 p.m.
