Madison High School Jaguars quarterback Jaquarrius "Deuce" Bolden put on a show for the home crowd Thursday night in Tallulah, scoring five touchdowns on the ground, all before halftime, in what would become a 48-22 victory over the Lafayette Renaissance Tigers.
The win moves the Jaguars to 3-0 on the season and came in the second annual Washington-Pennington Classic that now marks the first home game of each year for MHS. The game is named for legendary Tallulah coaches Levi Washington and Don Pennington, the former of whom is the father of current MHS head football coach Levi Washington Jr.
And the junior Washington's team got off to an early start in Friday's win, as Bolden broke free on the first play from scrimmage for a 70-yard touchdown run. MHS running back Jaydon Larry tacked on the 2-point conversion on the ground and the Jags took an early 8-0 lead.
Midway through the first, another long run from Bolden set up his own 1-yard touchdown run and he would strike again on the ground early in the second quarter to put the Jags up 20-6.
The Tigers answered on its next possession with a long rushing score and 2 through the air, but Bolen found pay dirt for a fourth score with just over four minutes left in the half. His fifth and final score would come with less than a minute in the first half and was capped by a 2-point conversion on the ground from Messiah Allen.
On the Tigers' next possession, the Jags' defense widened the gap after Tyler Owens recorded a pick-six near midfield, giving MHS a 40-14 lead heading into the break.
The Madison defense struck again early in the second half when Amarion White recorded a scoop-and-score after a fumbled punt attempt by the Tigers. Messiah Patterson added 2 on the ground and put the game out of reach.
