The Madison High School Jaguars used six forced turnovers and an ever-improving offensive attack to blank the Northeast Vikings in a 42-0 shutout Friday on the road in Pride.
The win gives the Jags a 2-0 start to the 2023 season and head coach Levi Washington Jr. said his team still has lots of room to grow and improve even further.
"We're starting to gel a little bit as a team," he said after Friday's win. "But, we're still figuring it out on both sides of the ball, but this was a good win."
That win began with the first play of Friday's game, when Montrell Hawkins picked off a Vikings pass.
Amarion White also recorded an interception for the Jags, which also added four fumble recoveries to its defensive resume in Friday's win.
Offensively, running back Jaydon Larry found the end zone on the ground from 19 yards out and also hauled in a touchdown pass from Jaqurion Bolden.
Messiah Patterson added two more rushing touchdowns for the Jaguars, finding the end zone on the ground from 30 and 17 yards out.
In addition to his game-opening interception, Hawkins also double-dipped the end zone Friday night, rushing for touchdowns of 32 and 27 yards.
With the win, the undefeated Jaguars will begin preparation for its first home game of the season, facing the Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy Tigers in the second annual Washington, Pennington Classic game Thursday in Tallulah.
Thursday's game marks the second Washington, Pennington Classic - a game named for legendary Tallulah coaches Don Pennington and Washington Jr.'s father, Levi Washington.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in Tallulah.
