The Madison High School Jaguars ended a dominate 2022-23 season with a hard-fought game that's final score didn't indicate the real level of play between Madison High School and St. Helena.
The Jags fell 71-51 in the second-round playoff game Tuesday, hosting the Hawks, but the game was a true grudge match in the early stages, with the teams only separated by a point - with Madison leading 17-16 - after a quarter of play.
Both defenses kept the score tight until the Hawks began to pull away late in the second period, carrying a 38-30 lead into halftime.
Shooting woes plagued the Jags in the second half and the Hawks capitalized on the missed opportunities, taking a 51-39 lead into the final quarter, before pulling out the 20-point win.
The Jaguars end the 2022-23 season with a final record of 24-6, including last week's round-one playoff win over Union Parish.
