The Delhi Charter School Gators are still on the hunt for a state title after knocking off the Slaughter Community Charter Knights in a 26-22 road win Friday in round 1 of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) playoffs.
DCS running back Deandra Young led the Gators with 160 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns in the round-1 win, while Levi Ezell and Lane Chappell led the defense with 11 tackles each.
DCS head coach Jeremy Foote said his team made big strides in Friday’s win and he is optimistic about the Gators’ next opponent, the Vermilion Catholic Eagles.
“Defense finally played to their ability,” Foote said. “A lot to clean up, but I’m optimistic against Vermilion Catholic. I believe we match up very well against them.”
The Eagles will host Friday’s round-2 match up with the Gators and come into the game at 10-0 after receiving a bye week in round 1.
The Gators and the Eagles are scheduled to kick off Friday at 7 p.m. in Abbeville.
