28 games. That’s how long it had been since Manchester Academy lost a game, dating back to 2018, when the Mavericks fell to Tallulah Academy by a score of 40-34 in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) state championship game.
That streak came to an end Friday night as TA bookended MA’s wins with a second defeat - this time a 46-30 victory to end the Mavericks’ perfect 2021 season at their house in Yazoo City, Miss.
The Trojans improved to 2-2 on the year with Friday’s non-conference win and knocked the Mavericks from the ranks of the unbeaten, as MA fell to 3-1 on the season.
The Trojans will now prepare for a homecoming matchup with the Prentiss Academy Saints Friday in Tallulah.
The Saints are 1-3 on the year after dropping a home game to Sharkey Issaquena Academy 42-28 Friday night.
The Trojans and Saints are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. Friday at R.A. “Racer” Holstead Memorial Stadium in Tallulah.
