"A true statement win" is how Madison High School Head Coach Milton Green described Friday's 38-36 victory over the Rayville High School Hornets - the Jags' first of the 2021 season.
"This was a groundbreaking win for our program and for the city of Tallulah," Green said. "We came out and beat Rayville during their homecoming. We took a beating, but came out and drove down the field in the last three minutes of the game to win it."
That drive was capped by a rushing score from Corey Moore, one of two on the night for the Jags running back, and an interception on the next Hornets possession by Jaguars defender Montrell Hawkins to seal the win.
Moore's two scores on the night were joined by touchdowns from Jiquan Davis on the ground and quarterback Jeremiah Marshall through the air. Marshall also accounted for a 2-point conversion on the ground.
The win gives the Jaguars a 1-3 overall record and a 1-1 mark in 2A, District 2 play, but maybe more importantly Green said, motivation moving into the second half of the season.
"It was big night for our three-headed monster," Green said of Moore, Davis and Marshall's offensive efforts. "This just shows that when you put hard work in, you get good results. Just hats off to the program, the administration and the kids. It was a major comeback after a lot of minor setbacks."
Green and the Jags will have the opportunity to continue that comeback as MHS will return home to Tallulah Fri., Oct. 15, to take on the 4-1 Mangham High School Dragons in district play.
