Tallulah Academy Lady Trojans’ senior pitcher Ginny Claire Hargrave pitched a perfect game and helped her team add another "W" to its win column Monday at home, knocking off WCCA 10-0 in just six innings.
Hargrave surrendered zero runs and zero hits from the mound over six innings Monday, striking out ten batters and walking zero.
Offensively, TA got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning with Hargrave driving in Emily Fortenberry. The Lady Trojans would finish the inning up 3-0 after a fly ball deep to left field off the bat of Carrie Beth Miller drove home Preston Collins and Miller herself crossed home plate after a single from Emma Collins.
TA added to its lead in the third inning. After Hargrave notched three straight strike outs, the Lady Trojans went back on the offensive, with Jessica Bullock's double sending Paige Toney home. In the bottom of the fourth, a double deep into right field from Emma Collins sent Miller across home plate to put TA up 5-0.
The Lady Trojans pulled more out of WCCA's reach in the fifth, with a double from Hargrave scoring pinch runner Kaylyn Ray, who came on after a single to left field from Jessica Bullock. Later in the fifth, Fortenberry scored off an RBI from Miller and Elle Moberly scored after coming in to pinch run for Hargrave, giving TA an 8-0 lead.
The game would be called in the sixth inning after a triple from Riley Cooper set up a double, which became a double RBI, from Preston Collins, sending Cooper and Toney across home plate.
According to GameChanger.com, • TA totaled 13 hits in the game. Emily Fortenberry, Emma Collins, Preston Collins, Jessica Bullock, and Hargrave each had multiple hits for the Lady Trojans. Hargrave, Bullock, Collins, Collins, and Fortenberry each collected two hits to lead the team. The Lady Trojans didn't commit a single error in the field. Rebecca Bullock had ten chances in the field, the most on the team.
With Monday’s win, the Lady Trojans improve to 5-3 on the year after notching a win over UCA Tues., Aug. 9.
TA met Riverfield Academy at home Tuesday, with the Lady Trojans falling 3-1 and dropping to 5-4 on the year. Weather permitting, the Lady Trojans will be back in action today (Thurs., Aug. 18) at home versus Prairie View is district play. The junior varsity squad is scheduled to play at 4:30, with the varsity game following immediately after.
