The Delhi Charter School Gators had their hands full Friday night on the road in Lake Providence, taking on the undefeated General Trass Panthers.
Ranked first in 2A, District 2, the Panthers run game wasn't as prolific as normal versus a stout rushing defense from the Gators, but General Trass made up for it with a high-flying aerial assault that led the way to 62 total points.
The Panthers struck first early in the first quarter to lead DCS 8-0 only minutes into the game, but the Gators quickly answered with a touchdown from Reid Arledge. An incomplete 2-point pass attempt left DCS trailing by just 2 points, down 8-6 with 4:42 to play in the opening quarter.
The Gators would put together several more long drives throughout the contest. With just 16 seconds remaining before the halftime break, and with starting quarterback Chad Clark II temporarily sidelined after being shaken up on a second-and-goal play, DCS would take a delay of game penalty and a sack on consecutive third-and-goal attempts to end the half down 38-6.
Friday's final of 62-6 leaves the Gators with a 1-5 record on the year and an 0-3 mark in district play. DCS will be back in Delhi Fri., Oct. 15, taking on Beekman Charter School for homecoming.
