Mayor Charles Finlayson and the Tallulah City Council approved measures expected yet necessary for the process of refurbishing the city’s water plant during Thursday’s regular meeting. But, prior to the proceeding, the mayor was in attendance at the regular meeting of the Tallulah Rotary Club, updating members on the plant’s progress, as well as a number of other ongoing projects, including sewer and road work.
Phase I of the water and sewer project, Finlayson explained, includes de-chlorination of the system and is scheduled to be completed and online by the end of the month. Phase II, he said, includes a new headworks bar screen and is scheduled for completion in January, while phase III of the project will include two new aerators in the facultative pond being in place by the end of March.
“We’re finishing plans for the new plant,” Finlayson said. “One of the things we have right now is a new water well, which is about a $500,000 project. They will have that online shortly. When that is finished, and the rehab of the plant, we’ll have two new wells and we will keep the old well. So, we won’t have any problems. The elevated tank uptown will be completely refurbished and painted.”
