Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC) Tallulah officials announced Friday training will begin for heavy vehicle operation Wed., Sept. 1.
The training is one month long and will end Sat., Sept. 30. The hours will be Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
“Heavy Vehicle Operator (HEVO) is an entry-level program that prepares an individual to apply technical knowledge and skills to operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment including utility tractors, earth-moving equipment, and grades,” explained John Garrison, course instructor.
This introductory course includes equipment safety, identification of equipment needed for the job, basic maintenance and operational skills, and an introduction in digging, ditching, sloping, stripping, grading, backfilling, clearing, and excavating. The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Heavy Equipment Level 1 credential is earned upon successful completion of the course.
NCCER develops standardized construction and maintenance curriculum and assessments with portable credentials. These credentials are tracked through NCCER’s Registry System that allows organizations and companies to track the qualifications of their craft professionals and check the qualifications of possible new hires. NCCER’s Registry System also assists craft professionals by maintaining their records in a secure database.
“We’re proud to be able to offer this course to our Tallulah area residents," said Scott Cox, campus director. "It can be a very lucrative career.”
There will also be scholarships available for those who qualify. Interested persons should visit www.ladelta.edu/workforce and apply online.
