The Tallulah City Council during its regular meeting Thursday approved the 2022 tax roll on all property subject to taxation by the City of Tallulah, with no change from 2021.
While District 5 City Councilman Toriano Wells expressed a desire to move more money from the General Fund into the fund for the road department, City Clerk Gerald Odom explained a change of that nature would require an adjustment through ballots approved by Tallulah residents.
The current millages levied include: 7.31 mills for the General Fund (OPR), totaling approximately $550,000, with approximately $140,000 allocated for roads; 6.79 mills for General Fund 77; 8.31 mills for General Fund 91; 7.83 mills for 91 Street Program; for a total of 30.24 mills.
In other business, the council discussed, but did not act on, a presentation by city spokesperson Yvonne Lewis concerning possible avenues for handling adjudicated properties in Tallulah; discussed possibilities for cleanup efforts in the city in either October or November; discussed, at the request of Wells, the addition of an item to the agenda for the first meeting of October laying out possibilities for annexing areas including Madison Parish Hospital, Madison Parish Health Unit, Kelly's Apartments and Chester Drive; tabled a request for an occupational license for Ron's Occupational Service; and, approved an occupational license for Rox'Z Creations, selling snow cones and "light snacks" for owner Sonya Blanson.
