Groups from northeast Louisiana and elsewhere in the state have already made the journey to neighboring Mississippi to aid in relief efforts after last week's line of storms devastated almost entire communities across the state. Sunday, Madison Parish residents will get a chance to help the cause.
Beginning at 3 p.m., a drive-through, drop-off benefit will be held for supplies that will be sent to Rolling Fork, Miss., the first town to suffer major damage last week.
The event will take place at the Tallulah-Madison Community Center, located at 800 Beech Street in Tallulah, and will focus on collecting the following items: non-perishable foods; water; diapers and wipes; infant formula; towels; heavy-duty trash bags; toothbrushes and toothpaste; paper towels and tissue; sanitary wipes; pet food; pet carriers; manual can openers; personal hygiene items; laundry detergent; cleaning supplies; paper products.
Event organizer Breona Fountain said she planned the drop-off because she knew the giving nature of the people in Tallulah and Madison Parish.
"I would like to ask Tallulah to help with the needs of the City of Rolling Fork. I believe this city has a big heart and I desire for us, as a whole, to stand together for this reason," she said.
