The City of Tallulah, in conjunction with the Community Development Block Grant, will recognize April as Fair Housing Month for the City of Tallulah.
“Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, and disability,” said Mayor Charles Finlayson.
The act has two main purposes, which are to prevent discrimination and to reverse housing segregation.
“As a community, I encourage all of our local landlords and our realtors to ensure that they are also following the Fair Housing guidelines,” Finlayson said.
Tallulah Section 8 Executive Director Merunda Brown said her program consistently follows all federal and state rules regarding fair housing.
“In addition to following all federal and state guidelines regarding fair housing, the Section 8 program is also evaluated by HUD (Housing and Urban Development) to ensure that these practices are followed.”
