The City of Tallulah was presented with a check for a $500,000 grant to go toward rehabilitation of old, unsafe, and/or underutilized properties in town Tuesday during a special ceremony held at city hall.
The money is part of a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) meant to help Tallulah bring back to life structures around town that are dilapidated, unsafe or simply underutilized. The EPA grant comes as part of the agency's Brownsfields Program, which aides municipalities and other entities in identiying, cleaning up when necessary, and rehabilitating properties.
Tallulah Mayor Charles Finlayson said the city was one of only two recipients of the latest round of grant awards, adding his administration owes a great debt of gratitude to the City of Tallulah's Yvonne Lewis for her long and extensive work on the project.
