City of Tallulah officials on Monday announced they have postponed the 2022 Martin Luther King Jr. Day program originally scheduled for Mon., Jan. 17, due to the recent surge in the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
“Due to the extreme rise in COVID-19 cases here in the City of Tallulah, I am postponing the Martin Luther King Program and Parade,” Mayor Charles Finlayson said. “It is imperative that everyone follow the CDC guidelines and wear your masks, social distance, wash your hands frequently and when you can, avoid gatherings with individuals outside of your household.”
Finlayson said future events planned to take place at the city’s community center will be evaluated as they approach.
“The entire state of Louisiana is a high-risk zone for catching this virus,” he said. “I will be speaking with the city council and getting their recommendations on limiting capacity for future events at the community center. I ask you all to please be as careful as possible as we continue to weather this health storm.”
Officials did not give a planned date for a possible rescheduling of the events.
