With the selection of two councilmembers appointed to the upcoming City of Tallulah Budget Committee, city officials have begun the budget process for fiscal year 2024 (July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024).
Councilmembers Joe K. Scott and Carla Harris were selected by their fellow councilmembers to serve on the budgeting committee. “We appreciate both Councilmembers Harris and Scott’s time working with our staff to prepare the budget for our upcoming fiscal year,” said Mayor Charles Finlayson. “I can tell you that the City of Tallulah is in the best financial condition that it has been in a long time. With careful spending and a lot of fiscal oversight, we have positioned the city to be able to pay bills on time and still have funds available for any unseen emergencies.”
Finlayson said that the council discussed getting input from the community towards the upcoming budget.
“We had councilmembers who were in favor of gathering community input towards the budget,” he said. “We encourage our citizens that if you have areas where you would like to see funding go towards, that you contact your city councilmember so that they can bring that information back to the budget committee. As you know, budgeting for our departments is the main priority. But we also would like to hear from our citizens and seeking out your councilmember, or even calling my office, gives everyone the opportunity to have their voice heard.”
Citizens interested in contacting their councilmember, but do not either know who their councilmember is or do not have a contact number, may call Tallulah City Hall at 318-574-0964 or they may email gerald.odom@tallulah-la.gov.
