Early voting for the 2022 runoffs following the March municipal election in Tallulah will begin Saturday.
Early voting will take place at the Registrar of Voters office at the Madison Parish Courthouse, located at 100 North Cedar Street in Tallulah, at 8:30 a.m. and will continue until 6 p.m.
Early voting will continue in the same location during the same time daily through Sat., April 23, (excluding Sun., April 17).
Ballots in the runoff election will include candidates vying for the offices of both mayor of Tallulah and city council in Districts 2 and 3.
During the March general election, current Tallulah Mayor Charles Finlayson garnered 34 percent of the total vote and will now face former Tallulah mayor Gloria Hayden in the runoff after Hayden received 18 percent of the vote to advance to the runoff. Finlayson and Hayden defeated challengers Xiomara K. Bell (1 percent), Lynette Ewell (6 percent), Arthur Lee (14 percent), Thomas Mitchell (2 percent), Kendrell Robinson (5 percent), Jann Williams-Buchanan (9 percent) and Antonio Wilson (10 percent).
In the race for the District 2 city council seat, challenger Lisa D. Houston will face off against Incumbent Martez Robinson in the runoff. Houston received 42 percent of the vote, while Robinson received 26 percent. Challengers included Freddie “Birdman” Carter (11 percent) and Rhondie Morris Sr. (21 percent).
In the race for District 3, challenger Carla Turner Harris (36 percent) will face Incumbent Andrew Sims (27 percent) in the runoff. Challenger Mack Johnson also received 27 percent of the vote; however, Johnsson received one fewer vote than Sims. Leandra Mitchell received 11 percent.
The April runoff election will be held Sat., April 30.
