Johnnie M H Jackson, age 86, passed away January 20, 2024. She was born on August 30, 1937 to the legal union of the late John Harris and Margaret Johnson Harris Eison in rural Madison Parish, Louisiana. She received her elementary and secondary education through the Madison Parish School System and received her diploma from Madison Parish Training Institute in 1956. S he received her B.A. Degree in Music and Education from Southern University in Baton, Rouge LA. She furthered her education by receiving her master’s degree in music from University of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York and 30 plus certification from Northeast University (University of Louisiana at Monroe), Monroe, LA. Johnnie began her teaching career in music which spanned over forty-seven years in the Sabine Parish School System. After leaving Sabine Parish, Johnnie went on to teach in the Richland Parish and Madison Parish School Systems, retiring from Wright Elementary School, Tallulah, La. in 2008. Johnnie was joined in marriage on January 21, 1962 to Freddie Jackson, Sr. in Tallulah, La. To this union, five children were born, Vernester, Freddie II, Sonny Maurice, Victor, and Veronica. She was an accomplished musician and played for many churches in Tallulah, La. and the surrounding area. Johnnie had an outgoing personality, loved to sing, and never met a stranger. Even when she retired from teaching, she continued to mentor children as this was something she loved more than anything. Johnnie and her outgoing personality is definitely going to be missed by all, especially her children. Johnnie leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Vernester Jackson Canty, Freddie Jackson, II. (Amy), Victor Jackson (Michelle), Veronica Jackson Major (Trindell), and Sonny Maurice Jackson, one brother, two sisters, one aunt, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Norman Eison and John Harris, grandparents, Jack and Emma Harris, Leon Johnson, Darnella Paige, brothers, Norman Eison, Jr., and Cleo Harris, former husband, Freddie Jackson, son-in-law, Anthony Canty, and daughter-in-law, Brenda Jackson.
Her remains are in the care of Golden Gate Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at Tallulah Elementary in Tallulah LA on February 10, 2024 at 11 am.
