Madison High School held off Ringgold 20-14 in a home game Friday night, using a balanced offense and key defensive plays to secure the win.
The Jaguars (1-0) gained 19 first downs and ran 61 plays, compared with 45 plays and 11 first downs for Ringgold. Madison finished with 21:37 in possession time, while Ringgold held the ball for 16:51.
Quarterback JaQuarrius Bolden led Madison’s offense, completing 13 of 17 passes for 211 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also ran seven times for 64 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Running back Messiah Patterson carried the ball seven times for 117 yards. Marc Parker added 53 yards on four carries, and Cayden Allen picked up 41 yards on six attempts. Jerrion Hines and Michael Perkins Jr. each rushed for 30 yards.
Through the air, Steven James caught five passes for 98 yards. Hines added five receptions for 61 yards. Jamarion Harrison caught two passes for 32 yards and an extra point conversion, while Perkins added one reception for 20 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Devon Oneal led Madison with 15 tackles, and Alex Allen added 12. Bryan Vaughn intercepted two passes.
Scoring opened in the second quarter, when Madison found the end zone twice for a 14-8 halftime lead. Ringgold closed the gap with a third-quarter touchdown to even the game at 14. In the fourth quarter, Madison scored the deciding touchdown and shut out Ringgold to secure the win.
The Jaguars were flagged eight times for 55 yards, while Ringgold was penalized 11 times for 69 yards.
Madison returns to action Friday against Fontainbleau on the road.
