The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has released its latest plan for how it will spend 67.5 million dollars in supplemental funding, detailing a slate of preservation and maintenance work that includes several projects in Madison Parish and the broader District Five region. “DOTD is pleased to announce an update regarding the allocation of 67.5 million dollars in supplemental funding aimed at enhancing the preservation and maintenance of roads, highways and infrastructure across the state,” the agency wrote on its Facebook page. “DOTD remains dedicated to keeping the public informed about the progress of these projects, ensuring effective use of the 67.5 million dollars in supplemental funding for the enhancement of our infrastructure.”
Two high-profile projects are already underway in Madison Parish. Crews are clearing trees and other vegetation deemed to be safety hazards along Interstate 20 in both Lincoln and Madison parishes. The work carries a price tag of 2.7 million dollars and is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2025. At the interchange where Louisiana 577 meets I-20, workers are repairing concrete pavement and upgrading drainage systems, a 2.2-million-dollar job expected to finish by fall 2025.
District-wide maintenance appears throughout DOTD’s May 2025 supplemental funding booklet. Seven failed drainage structures have been rebuilt at a cost of 62,820 dollars using 580 linear feet of new pipe and eleven pipe bands. Bridge crews have replaced 143 treated timbers and 29 treated piles, spending 69,874 dollars to remedy decay and structural damage.
Asphalt leveling funded through the supplemental allocation wrapped up in May, marking the end of major paving efforts for the current fiscal year. A separate project to install raised pavement markers across District Five is set to begin in mid-June.
Madison Parish will also see full-depth base asphalt repairs on U.S. 65, an endeavor valued at just over 1 million dollars. An active contract calls for additional full-depth asphalt patching along the same corridor, reinforcing DOTD’s focus on keeping the key north-south route in working order.
Agency officials said they will continue posting updates throughout the construction season so residents can track progress and understand precisely how the supplemental funds are being deployed.
