A Tallulah Police Department officer was hospitalized Sunday after being involved in a two-car accident with a driver suspected of being under the influence.
According to information released from TPD Chief Buster McCoy, officer Sha’Coya Pitts was taken to the hospital by Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies following the accident. Pitts was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. McCoy said the driver of the second vehicle was arrested for driving while intoxicated and failing to yield at a stop sign before crashing into the patrol car.
The wreck took place shortly before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Mississippi Street and Bayou Drive in Tallulah.
Following the incident, 21-year-old Robert Fortenberry, of Tallulah, was taken into custody and charged with failure to yield to a stop sign and driving while intoxicated in the first degree. McCoy said Fortenberry was not injured in the wreck.
Pitts was transferred to St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, where McCoy reported Monday she is recovering well from her injuries.
