A Rayville man on Sunday succumbed to injuries sustained after he was shot in the leg by the passenger of the car he was driving, according to officials with the Madison Parish Sheriff's Office (MPSO).

MPSO said the still-unnamed victim crashed while traveling east on Interstate 20 near the Tallulah exit around 3 a.m.. When deputies arrived, they discovered the driver appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS transported the driver to the emergency room, where he later died as a result of his injury.
MPSO said 35-year-old Lakeesha Lashounda Lewis, of Vicksburg, was taken into custody and has been charged with manslaughter.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
