The Wings Over Winston Airshow will return to Louisville on October 14, 2023, with a free admission event featuring a variety of aerial performances, including a jet-powered sailplane and a wingwalker.
The airshow will take place at the Louisville-Winston County Airport and will feature performances by the AeroShell Aerobatic Team, Bob Carlton in his jet-powered sailplane, Carol Pilon the wingwalker, Frank Kimmel in his Corsair warbird, Greg Koontz in his Super Decathlon, Stephen Covington in his Raptor biplane, and Greg Bryant and the All-American Skydiving Team.
Gates will open at 9:30 a.m. and the airshow will begin at 11:00 a.m. There is no admission fee and shuttle service between parking areas and the airport is provided.
The AeroShell Aerobatic Team is a four-ship formation team flying T-6 Texan aircraft. The team is known for its precision flying and smoke displays.
Bob Carlton is a retired rocket scientist who flies a jet-powered sailplane called the Super Salto. The Super Salto is the world's only twin jet sailplane and is capable of performing aerobatic maneuvers that are not possible with traditional sailplanes.
Carol Pilon is a professional wingwalker who performs without a parachute on the wings of a biplane. She is one of the most experienced wingwalkers in the world and has performed in airshows all over the globe.
Frank Kimmel will be flying his Corsair warbird, a World War II fighter plane. The Corsair is known for its speed and agility and was one of the most successful fighter planes of the war.
Greg Koontz will be performing in his Super Decathlon, a high-performance aerobatic aircraft. Koontz is a former airshow champion and is known for his exciting and acrobatic flying.
Stephen Covington will be flying his Raptor biplane, a specially modified Pitts S2S. The Raptor is known for its speed and maneuverability and is a popular choice for airshow performers.
Greg Bryant and the All American Skydiving Team will be performing a freefall demonstration. The team will parachute from an airplane and perform a variety of formations and tricks.
