As I sit writing this devotional, I am reminded what Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:1-5. It talks about perilous times and perilous men. It describes perfectly what our world is going through today.
I guess the age-old question is, “did this just start recently?” According to some of the research I have done on this question, the answer is “no”. It has gone on for many, many years and every generation seems to think it will be the last.
Even though we see much evidence of what Paul told Timothy, none of us know when the last days are going to be. We must remember what Jesus told us in Mark 13:32; “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
All of us that are Christians understand that Christ is going to return, however there are many naysayers that dispute this. Some say that we just expire and that is the end. Our body is buried or cremated and there is no more hope for any of us for an eternal home.
My God tells me different and explains everything that is going to happen in His Word, the Bible. The more we read and study His Word the more we understand that He is our only hope and will give us eternal salvation if we ask it of Him. He does not want any of us to perish in Hades, but some do not believe in Him.
We are told in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
I remember very vividly the decade of the sixties and it seemed that all the earth was doomed at that time. Just as we are today, there were times of rebellion among some of the people. We had so-called prophets preaching the end times and some even gave a day and time the earth would diminish. We had the same rhetoric being repeated about the end times as we do today. We had the visions of many saying there is no God, yet they were predicting the end of the world just as we are told it would happen in the Bible. It is hard for me to believe that people do not know there is a God when all you need to do is look around you and see the majesty of the earth. Look at the skies. See the sun and the moon and the changing of day to night and then back to daytime again. Is this man made or did this just evolve? No! This is the creation of the almighty God and only He knows when He is going to diminish it.
I believe that the many who say there is no God are the ones that reject Him as Lord, Savior, and Creator of the earth. Yes, there are many that do this, and I pray that one day all of them will see the way and accept Him as their Lord and Savior. I also believe that the end times are near, but I do not know if I will see them while I am on earth, or it could be thousands of years from now.
For those that believe our time on earth is near the end, we should go to God’s Word and listen to what He is telling us. Accept Him as your Lord and Savior today so that you can have eternal life with Him when your journey on earth is over.
