In this hurry-up time of life, I see people rushing and pushing to get where they are going and achieve what they are wanting. I am not saying this is the wrong way about life, however, I am saying that it can shorten your life’s enjoyment of time, family, friends, and yes, even your workplace.
Why do we do this? It seems that most of us want to be accepted and held accountable by the world instead of putting our faith and strength in our Lord and Savior. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among all the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
I remember times during my work experience that I was one of the people that became anxious about what I was doing and trying to please my employers with the good profit margins they expected. Sometimes I was successful and sometimes I wasn’t. I often found myself, during the many times of job expectations, putting my family behind what I was trying to accomplish at work. This led to missing many activities of my children, missing many dinners at home with my family, missing church activities, etc. I was in the hustle and bustle of the world instead of letting God lead me in the direction He wanted me to go and being with the family He blessed me with.
I saw a good analysis of what we expect when we listen to God’s voice versus listening to Satan’s voice. Every one of us know these are true statements, however, we don’t adjust our lives to be the person God wants us to be.
God “stills you.” Satan “rushes you.” God “leads you.” Satan “pushes you.” God “reassures you.” Satan “frightens you.” God “enlightens you.” Satan “confuses you.” God “comforts you.” Satan “worries you.” God “calms you.” Satan “obsesses you.” God “convicts you.” Satan “condemns you.”
All of us need to think about these analogies. How do they describe what you are doing in life? It doesn’t matter who we are, where we are, the job we have, or the outlook on life we have, none of us have any more time during the day than that which God gives us. It is up to us how we spend the precious moments He gives us.
I am not saying neglect your job because you certainly need it to provide for yourself and your family. Do your best and be the best employee you can. I am saying do not get so wrapped up in it that your family and others are neglected. Enjoy life and seek God’s will in your daily lives because life is short.
For those of us that are Christians, we understand that the Bible teaches that life is more than physical existence, but also involves a spiritual relationship with God through Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life.
