Reading a story several years ago really got my attention. Someone had written about one of their sheep that was bitten by a deadly venomous rattlesnake. The sheep swelled up in the face and I am sure it hurt; however, the snake did not know that the blood of the lamb is used as an antivenom to rattlesnake bites.
Such is true for us in our everyday lives if we know Jesus as our Lord and Savior and have faith in Him. He is the Lamb of God and will destroy any evil activity that comes our way if we trust Him to do so. This doesn’t mean that we are immune to snake bites or any evil activity, because we can surely lose our life to them. It does mean that should this happen we know our eternal home is with Jesus and we will live forever and ever with Him.
We are told the words of Jesus in Luke 10:18-19; “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
With these words from our Lord and Savior we understand that our future is secure, whether on earth or in heaven. It doesn’t mean that we can live as the world does and take our eyes off Him. When we do this our lives will become less Christian and more Satan-like if we allow ourselves to follow the worldly values. We must remember that Satan is the prince of the air, and he will do anything to take you away from Jesus or keep you from accepting Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. The Apostle Paul tells us this Ephesians 2:2; “…in which you once walked according to the course of the world, according to the prince of the power of the air…”
We are only human, and we are going to make mistakes. We are going to do things that are not pleasing to God; however, He is a forgiving God and will keep us in His fold if we repent of our sins and ask His forgiveness.
Just like the sheep that was bitten by the rattlesnake, he was swollen for two days but the blood of the lamb destroyed the venom, and he was okay.
We must understand that during our lifetime on earth we are going to face serpents and very often are going to be bitten. Should this happen to any of us, we also are saved by the blood of the Lamb, who died on cruel cross to save us from our sins. All we must do is go to Him in faith, through prayer and ask His forgiveness and help.
