BATON ROUGE — When the LSU women’s basketball team captured the national title on April 2, 2023, the Tiger Athletic Foundation contracted with Nautilus Publishing to produce a commemorative coffee table book for donors and LSU fans.
Neil White, creative director and publisher at Nautilus, said, “Coach Mulkey was instrumental in the design and art direction of the women’s national championship book. She wanted it to be something special — oversized, full-color, foil stamped and embossed — a true commemorative edition.”
Just as production of Mulkey’s vision was being implemented, the LSU baseball team won the college world series.
“It would be a bit strange for the Tiger Athletic Foundation to give one commemorative book to donors when two LSU teams won national titles in 2023,” White said. “So, we hustled together and published a matching baseball book.”
“Because the baseball championship book was designed to complement the women’s basketball book — and form a sort of boxed set,” White said, “Coach Kim Mulkey actually had a huge impact on the look and feel of the LSU baseball book.”
Each individual book retails for $45, but the two-book bundle sells for $70.
The official titles of the publications — the only championship books officially licensed by LSU Sports — are LSU Women’s Basketball National Champions 2023 and LSU Baseball National Champions 2023.
Each book contains more than 200 stunning photographs that capture the narrative arc of each championship season.
And both Coach Mulkey and baseball Coach Jay Johnson wrote introductions to the books.
“If you want to know what the two championship seasons meant, personally, to both coaches,” White said, “their respective introductions to the books convey it beautifully.”
Both books are for sale at bookstores across Louisiana, or online at LSUchamps.com.
