On Saturday, December 6, Rubin Weeks, an inmate with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, died. Weeks, 63, was arrested April 29, for the 1986 abduction, rape, and murder of Shondra May. The cause of death is unknown at this time, but there was no foul play suspected. The MS Bureau of Investigations is handling the case due to Weeks death in custody.
On Tuesday , December 2, Weeks had a hearing to determine his detention status and a bond. District Attorney Steven Kilgore argued for the State that Weeks should remain in custody with no bond. Circuit Court Judge Caleb May agreed with the State that Rubin should remain in jail without bond.
"While we close this part of our investigation , we hope in the months to come we can release the details that lead to the arrest of Weeks," Sheriff Mike Lee said in a prepared statement. "Thank you to everyone that assisted in this investigation."
