The US Route 80 West bridge over Panola Bayou in Madison Parish has been closed due to major damage, according to parish and state officials.
Madison Parish Sheriff Chad Ezell first announced the closure by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The bridge is located 1.3 miles west of US 65 and just past the Louisiana Transitional Center for Women.

“This closure is necessary to allow DOTD crews to mobilize and perform repairs to the bridge deck," DOTD Public Information Officer Erin Buchanan said. "The bridge is anticipated to reopen on Monday, February 9, 2026, weather and other factors permitting.”
Motorists traveling along Highway 80 West are advised to take I-20 to LA 577 to US 80 while repairs are underway. All residents are asked to exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
"DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment," Buchanan said. "Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you."
