It didn't take long for the Madison High School Jaguars to jump out to a first-quarter lead over the Delhi Charter School Gators Friday night in Tallulah during a district match-up that also served as 2020's homecoming game for MHS.
With just over five minutes left in the opening period, Jags running back Shaman Shoemaker broke free for a long touchdown run to put Madison up 6-0. The Gators' defense answered quickly with a pick-six after a deflected Madison pass was hauled in by a DCS defender to even things up at 6-all with just over a minute left in the first quarter.
Just seconds later, the Jags' potent rushing attack again yielded points, as another long run gave MHS a 12-6 lead.
The Gators would only find the end zone once more in the contest, while the Jags would go on to tack on 28 more points through three quarters to knock off Delhi Charter 40-13.
The win leaves the Jaguars at 2-1 (1-1 in District 2 play), while the Gators fall to 0-3 on the season.
