Billy Ray Jones died unexpectedly at Presbyterian Hospital in Denton, Texas, Wed., Oct. 7, 2020, at the age of 62. Jones was born in Tallulah on Sept. 14, 1958, to Mr. J.L. Jones. He spent his childhood in Madison Parish, where he graduated from Tallulah High School in 1976. Later, Jones moved to Boyd, Texas to pursue a career as a millwright.
Jones wa a true believer in the Lord and was a spirited individual. He confessed his love for Christ later in his life and lived a life which glorified Him. His faith was displayed through his actions and his love for people. His family has confidence in knowing he heard, “Well done, my good and faithful servant,” when he entered the gates of Heaven.
Jones was an avid fisherman and football fan who enjoyed cheering on his Decatur Eagles, LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. Throughout his life, Jones was affectionately given numberous nicknames, such as: Squirrel; Billy Bob; and, Fat Boy.
Jones is survived by his daughter, Jordyn Leann Jones, of Decatur, Texas; his siblings, Mary Ann (Odell) Vining, of Minden, LA., Alice Carson, of Delhi, James (Andrea) Jones, of Delta and Edith Mitchell, of Madison, MS.; brother-in-law, George Glass, of Tallulah; and, numerous nieces and nephews.
Jones will truly be missed by his most faithful companion, Roscoe, his Great Pyrenees and Australian Shepard mixed puppy.
Jones is preceded in death by his father, Joesph Louis Jones; his mother and stepfather, Althea Mae and Roy Lee Allen; and, his oldest sister, Louise Glass, all of Tallulah.
Jones was laid to rest during a private service Mon., Oct. 12, 2020, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah, under the directioin of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah, with Bro. Jason Lupo officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were David Brown, of Roanoke, Texas, Jeremy Byrne, of Slidell, Texas, George Glass, of Tallulah, Larry McConnell, of Slidell, Texas, Mike McConnell, of Gainesville, Texas and Logan Rudd, of Tallulah. Serving as honorary pallbearers were James Jones, of Delta. Due to the current pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date to allow friends to honor the memory of Jones.
