The Tallulah Rotary Club welcomed author William “Bill” Nash as guest speaker at its most recent meeting Tuesday.
Nash spoke to the members about his book, “High Hat Sam.” The book recounts the life and times of former Louisiana Gov. Sam Houston Jones.
Jones, Nash said, was born in Merryville and graduated from DeRidder High School. He served as governor from 1940 to 1944.
Nash himself is noted for being a historian of Louisiana political history and has authored three books. Former governors, Edwin Edwards and the late Buddy Roemer, have done the forewords for several of Nash’s projects: “High Hat Sam” in 2014; “The Battle of the Longs (Gillis, Speedy, and Russell Long)” in 2016; and “The Powerful Passman” about Congressman Otto Passman, which was just released in December 2020. With endorsement from the McKeithen family, he is currently working on a project called “Big John” about Gov. John McKeithen.
Nash was ordained as a Pentecostal minister in 1985 and has served as pastor of Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church of Mangham, La. for the past 18 years.
