Announcement from Madison Parish Sheriff Sammie Byrd
Sheriff Byrd wants to inform the public that there has been numerous complaints filed over the past few weeks in reference to persons shooting weapons within the city limits. Discharging a weapon within city limits is deemed illegal. Also, every time someone fires a weapon, that bullet is going somewhere. There have been numerous reports of houses or homes being struck, along with vehicles. Each one of those bullets fired has the potential to take someone’s life. Any person that is caught firing a weapon or reported to be firing a weapon could face charges. Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office is working to take the guns off the streets and reduce gun violence. This is a lengthy process, but one that we will continue to strenuously work on. If anyone sees or hears any weapons being fired, you are encouraged to contact the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-574-1831 or call 911.
