A joint effort between the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Tallulah Police Department, the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI) and the Louisiana State Probation and Parole office led to the arrest of a man in Tallulah last week for crimes against children.
According to information released from Attorney General Jeff Landry’s office, 57-year-old Sean Ramey, who does not have a current address, was arrested last week on three counts of possession of pornography involving children under the age of 13.
Landry said, since the COVID-19 public health emergency was declared, the LBI Cyber Crimes Unit has seen a 200-percent increase in online sexual predator cases. Landry added, last week alone, the unit nabbed three suspects across the state - including Ramey’s arrest in Tallulah.
“Policies have consequences, and one consequence of the governor's shutdowns and mandates is an increase of online activity – including internet crimes against children,” Landry said. “Maintaining the status quo when it comes to protecting our children during these perilous times is dangerous and jeopardizes the safety of our communities. While understaffed and overworked, my team and our law enforcement partners continue working tirelessly to find and apprehend criminals who produce, possess, or distribute sexual abuse images and videos of children."
Statewide, Ramey’s arrest was part of an ongoing investigation that also netted charges against men in St. Bernard and Jefferson parishes. Following his arrest, Ramey was booked into the Madison Parish Jail.
