A 911 Millage Renewal will appear on the October 11, 2025 election ballot. This is ONLY a RENEWAL and NOT a new tax. Your property taxes will remain the same and will NOT increase. This millage renewal comes up only every ten (10) years and has remained the same nearly every renewal period.
The purpose of this renewal request is to continue to adequately provide funds for 911 services and programs for the Sheriff's department and the 911 Dispatch Center in Madison Parish. The millage supports the 911 emergency services in our area which includes Tallulah, Richmond, Mound, Delta and Waverly. All funds generated by the millage renewal is spent on maintaining dispatch/radio equipment and supporting the Sheriff's department with man power in the 911 Center.
The ability to quickly and effectively provide dispatch services for all First Responders (Police, Fire, Ambulance and Sheriff) to the proper location of an emergency regardless whether the call for help comes from a landline or cellular device, is essential to public safety and our quality of life here in Madison Parish. With the passage of this renewal, Madison Parish will be able to continue with up to date equipment and provide the top quality services it has been providing over the years.
This millage is also used to maintain the radio system that law enforcement, fire fighters and other First Responders use on a daily basis.
911 Director, Cynthia Machen, says this millage renewal is needed to ensure that quality 911 emergency services continue for the residents of Madison Parish.
Madison Parish Sheriff's Office and Madison Parish 911 are asking voters to understand the critical need for the renewal of the existing millage that funds approximately 70% of the budget for 911, The renewal will appear on the ballot on October 11, 2025. This renewal will NOT increase property taxes at all. The millage was initially voted on and passed in 2005, renewed in 2015 and is up for renewal again this year.
Madison Parish 911 emphasizes the importance of the renewal saying that without it, the 911 center will face significant funding shortages that could result in lay-offs of 911 dispatchers, compromise of safety and reduction in essential services.
Since the first passage of the millage renewal in the early 2000's, there has been NO charge for 911 signs or addressing permits through the 911 office. If the millage does not pass, the 911 office will be forced to go back to charging for address permits and 911 signs in order to fund the department. The permits and 911 signs are mandatory in the parish. Residents cannot receive electricity permits, water permits or new construction permits without first contacting the 911 office to get a registered 911 address. These services will continue to be FREE if the millage renewal passes on October 11th.
The public's support of this millage renewal will be much appreciated. Please get out to vote YES on the 911 millage renewal on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Early voting begins September 27-October 4, 2025. If you have any questions or concerns about this renewal, give Cynthia Machen a call (318-341-1697) or Sheriff Chad Ezell (318-574-1831).
